Made for Gameboy with GBStudio.

Cats have had it good for a long time. Lazing around, breaking stuff, destroying the Christmas tree. Well, this year, the Christmas trees are fighting back, with pixel art and chiptunes all created over the past 3 days.

Play as Connor-fer to battle your way through a Metroidvania style world to retrieve the sacred relics of the tree folk, and defeat the evil (and delightfully punny) FatCat Overlords.

Expand your abilities and where you can go as you collect each relic.

This project was undertaken for GBStudio Game Jam 2020, and isn't complete. You can however play through up to the second boss, and then see how the rest of the game would be laid out.

You start with 8 health, even though you currently can't see that info as there is no HUD. Hint (For the sake of Game Jam only): For those who are struggling with the first puzzle - activating all 3 crystals in the room and then taking the top path will give you access to the save room and associated checkpoint. I strongly recommend you do this. Activating the top crystal only will give you access to the bottom path.

Controls:

A - (Computer Z) Attack (once you have weapons)

B - (Computer X) Jump

Start - (Computer Enter) View collected relics

Select - (Computer Shift) Change weapon (if applicable)

Direction Pad - Move

What didn't make it in yet:

  • Finishing all the levels and bosses (all relic mechanics are present)
  • A HUD to display health and currently selected weapon
  • Health drops
  • Health powerups
  • Better enemy animations
  • More lore to expand the story
  • More hidden rooms
  • Secret passages back to the save room at the top of the ice shaft
  • An ending
